Marzipan day!

I better try to keep this blog alive. I have a lot on my mind and I make up great posts but I never manage to write them down. But on this dull, rainy day, I finally made the time to both do something AND write about it. Go me!

Yesterday I bought a great big amount of marzipan. A whole kilo actually, and for absolutely no other reason than the excitement of it being on sale (32,50 kr.) since it’s usually crazy ass pricy. As soon as I came home I began finding delicious recipes containing marzipan.

As today was a rainy day anyway, I figured I would spend it on making something out of the marzipan. It took the whole day and made a LOT of mess (which is the reason I usually don’t hurl myself into big time cooking missions) but I think the result went pretty good!

I started out with making marzipan and white chocolate scones:
I must admit that I think the scones taste a little dull - but with a nice layer of butter, they are perfect as an (unhealthy) evening snack ;)
Afterwards came the 'real' marzipan making. I decided on (easter) eggs and hearts. The egg form makes stuffing easy and hearts are always lovely.
This is pretty much what I started out with.

For the crunchy easter eggs, I mixed almonds and heated sugar water.  This also works as a snack in itself. Yum!

Halfway through. Chocolate coating - the hardest part - is still missing.

Pretty, isn't it? I had some trouble with the dark chocolate coating getting all hard and not very melty. Fixed it by mixing in a little milk and butter but it backfired on me as the chocolate wasn't dry when I moved the marzipan candies into the boxes. I made it through though!

All done!
What the different chocolates contain:
Dark chocolate eggs - marzipan with nougat filling
White chocolate eggs - marzipan with raspberry filling (this one got me really excited!)
Dark hearts - raspberry marzipan
White hearts - raspberry marzipan with nougat
Dark eggs with dots/stripes - almond crunch marzipan

As you might notice, these doesn't look pro at all. I simply don't have the skills for it even though I tried by decorating the candy. Oh well, I had fun at it tastes really great! And so ends the great marzipan day.

PS. I never got to use the fruit colors. that really bummed me out, but then at least I have coloring for the next time!
